Every once in a while, I get the urge to go through my Wish List on Amazon and order a few books I’ve had my eye on for a while. Here’s the latest:
Nabokov’s Lectures on Literature – I love Nabokov. There probably isn’t anything he has written that I wouldn’t want to read. And, even better, why not read what he had to say about other great works of literature, particularly Ulysses, my current literary obsession?
Nabokov’s Strong Opinions – Again. Nabokov. A collection of interviews and articles covering a wide range of topics.
Sex and Punishment: Four Thousand Years of Judging Desire – I don’t recall where or how I first heard about this book but I was immediately intrigued. It’s a history of society’s attempt to regulate and judge sexual behavior.
Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth – This book has been receiving a lot of buzz recently. But, even if it hadn’t, I’d likely still be interested. I’m not a Christian. However, I find Jesus to be an extremely interesting historical figure and learning more about his actual life from a historical perspective has always been something that intrigued me.
Infinite Jest – I don’t read a lot of contemporary literature. But this book keeps popping up on list after list of great or must-read novels. So there it is. I’ll give it a shot.
